Sophia & Joey’s Catholic Wedding at Holy Apostles & Reception at Waters Edge Event Center


Some weddings feel extra special because of the deep personal connections we share with the couple, and Sophia and Joey’s wedding was one of those. Sophia and I met in college, bonding over our shared love of books, faith, and marketing majors. When she asked us to capture her wedding day, I was honestly super nervous at first to capture a wedding for a friend, but it was SUCH an honor to be part of her and Joey's wedding day and I'm so glad I said yes!


A Beautiful Catholic Ceremony at Holy Apostles


Sophia and Joey exchanged vows at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Meridian, Idaho, a stunning church with beautiful natural light and an elegant, sacred atmosphere. Their ceremony was heartfelt, filled with scripture, music, and traditions that reflected their deep love for Jesus and one another.


One of my favorite moments was seeing Joey’s reaction as Sophia walked down the aisle—a mix of joy, awe, and overwhelming love. These moments are why we love what we do—capturing the emotions that make a wedding day so unforgettable.


Celebrating at Waters Edge Event Center


After the ceremony, guests made their way to Waters Edge Event Center in Eagle, Idaho, one of the Treasure Valley’s most elegant venues. Overlooking the Boise River, Waters Edge offers a mix of modern sophistication and natural beauty, making it the perfect setting for a summer wedding reception.

How to Prepare for a Hot June Wedding


Sophia and Joey’s wedding took place on a hot June day, and while summer weddings are gorgeous, they come with a few challenges—especially when it comes to family photos and bridal portraits. Here are some tips to keep everyone comfortable and looking their best:


  1. Plan for Shade
  2. Choose a location with trees or buildings that provide some shade for mid-day photos. We went with the Boise Greenbelt for Sophia and Joey since it was shady and conveniently located between the Holy Apostle's and Water's Edge.
  3. Hydration is Key
  4. Encourage the bridal party and family members to drink plenty of water throughout the day. We always suggest keeping a cooler stocked with bottled water nearby!
  5. Touch-Up Kit Essentials
  6. For brides and bridesmaids, carrying oil blotting sheets, a mini fan, and setting spray can help keep makeup fresh despite the heat.
  7. Optimize the Timeline
  8. Consider taking family photos earlier in the morning if you've opted for a first look, or scope out an area at or near your venue you know will be shady during the time you have set for family photos.
  9. Sunscreen & Sunglasses
  10. Not only is sunscreen going to keep you from burning and looking red during the reception, something I learned from my makeup artist on my wedding day is that spray sunscreen will also make you look glowy in photos.
